About location:
The name of Tribunj (Tribohunj) dates back in 1452 as reflection of Slavic mythology. It is also the year when St. Nicholas church was built on the nearby hill, close to Jurjevgrad fortress. Initially this village consisted of a small fortified castle on an island were local inhabitants were hiding from the Turks. Big stones were thrown into the sea to wreck the waves and Tribunj was soon connected to the mainland. Since Tribunj has the most fishing boats in central Dalmatia per capita, its waterfront, upon the return of fishermen, resembles a large market place where you can buy recently caught fish and other seafood. Sports enthusiasts have wide range of sporting activities at their disposal: tennis, boccia, 5-a-side soccer, basketball, diving courses, sailing and underwater safari. Several traditional festivals, local festivities and entertainment events take place in the summer, among which the most popular are boat show, wine fiesta and donkey race.
