Croatian Government to Remove Restrictions on European Buyers (11.9.2008)

OPP has learnt that the Croatian government is removing all of its restrictions on citizens from the European Union buying property in the country as of February 1, 2009. As Croatia works towards joining the EU, perhaps as early as next year, its government is hurriedly introducing new legislation to harmonise its processes with that of the 27-strong nation bloc.

FT launches ‘First European House Price Guide’ (9.8.2008)

The company said that the launch of the dedicated microsite will help rectify the “lack of effective house price data in Europe” and is collated using official data from national statistics offices, central banks, land registry, surveys, lender valuations and will be updated on a ongoing basis. The microsite will allow the user to download selected data the statistics into a single excel spreadsheet.

Recent Law Changes in Montenegro (27.6.2008)

As initially reported in OPP March, the Montenegrin government is now believed to be in the later stages of a debate on the position of foreign ownership in the country – with some confusion over the real rights to be attributed to non-nationals. The full set of laws being debated is numerous and complex, however one of the fundamental changes in discussion, will make it easier for overseas investors to buy land for development purposes, by removing the need to establish a limited company before purchase.
